The Blood of Dawnwalker Character Customization

Does The Blood of Dawnwalker have character customization? Learn what is confirmed about fixed protagonist Coen, player choices, skills, and appearance options.

The Blood of Dawnwalker does not currently have a confirmed free-form character creator. You play as Coen, a named protagonist with a defined history, family, and Dawnwalker identity, while your choices shape how he acts and develops. Appearance sliders, gender selection, renaming, and a complete customization menu are To be confirmed.

Coen is the protagonist

Official and developer material consistently presents Coen as the character you play. He is a young man from Vale Sangora who becomes a Dawnwalker after an incomplete vampire transformation, leaving him human during the day and a vampire at night. His family, relationships, and conflict with Brencis are part of the story from the beginning.

That fixed starting point is deliberate. In a developer interview, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz explained that a predefined character makes it easier to create emotions and shape the story around someone with an established identity. Rebel Wolves specializes in stories built around such characters, so the available evidence points to Coen remaining Coen throughout the campaign.

What the player can shape

A fixed protagonist does not mean a fixed playthrough. The narrative sandbox lets players choose which quests to pursue, which goals to skip, how to approach conflicts, and how much time to spend preparing before the next story beat. Action and inaction can change the world and the people around Coen.

The previews also describe relationships that grow through dialogue, activity, and help given to characters. NPCs can remember what Coen does and react to it later, while infamy tracks behavior that makes him more or less notorious. These systems let different players create different versions of Coen without changing his name or basic biography.

Skill customization through three trees

Coen’s gameplay development is divided into a human skill tree, a vampire skill tree, and a shared tree. The human side supports swordplay and witchcraft, while the vampire side provides supernatural abilities, movement, and predatory combat. A player can focus on one side or combine them, although relying on only one form may leave a large portion of the game unexplored.

Gameplay and official explanations show skills such as Burning Blood, Artery Attack, Shadowstep, Clawride, Planeshift, and Compel Soul. These examples demonstrate the range of combat, movement, and investigation options, yet they do not establish a final complete perk list. Exact skill names, costs, progression values, and the strongest build are To be confirmed.

Day and night are part of customization

Coen’s identity changes with the time of day. Human Coen can use a sword and human magic, while vampire Coen can use claws, heightened senses, blood abilities, and supernatural movement. Choosing when to begin or complete an activity can therefore change both the way you play and the version of the scene you see.

This is a form of character expression within the story. A player who spends more time with witchcraft and human investigation will produce a different run from someone who emphasizes vampiric movement and feeding. The game does not present a cosmetic menu as the main source of variety, because the larger differences come from choices, skills, relationships, and the calendar.

Can you change Coen’s appearance

The Steam page and official purchase material identify the player character as Coen without describing an appearance editor. The developer interview also discusses the value of a predefined protagonist and does not describe a system for changing his face, body, voice, or name. A confirmed list of cosmetic options is therefore unavailable.

That absence should be kept separate from visual progression. Coen can gain powers, equipment, and different forms of vampiric or human capability, but the material does not say that these systems change his base appearance through a character creator. Armor and edition bonuses may affect what he wears, while the broader cosmetic details remain To be confirmed.

Why the fixed identity matters to the story

Coen’s relationships depend on other characters recognizing him and remembering what he has done. Anca’s guidance, the family rescue, and the conflict with Brencis all rely on a protagonist who already has ties to the valley. A blank character would not carry those same relationships into the opening scenes.

The choice also supports the game’s emphasis on consequences. Players can decide how far Coen leans into his vampiric nature, whether he helps or abandons people, and how he handles the limited time available. The result is a personalized story path built on decisions, with Coen’s identity unchanged.

What remains To be confirmed

The current sources do not confirm hairstyle, face presets, body options, voice settings, pronouns, name changes, or a separate multiplayer avatar. They also do not provide the full equipment transmog or cosmetic system. Each of those details is To be confirmed until an official menu or final release documentation shows it.
